RS Models 92068 1/72 KI-60 Heavy Fighter
The Kawasaki Ki-60 was designed to meet an IJAAF requirement for a heavy fighter. Powered by a license-built DB601 engine like the concurrently-developed Ki-61, the Ki-60 at first glance looks very much like its more successful, and famous, cousin the Hien. However the Ki-60 was shorter in length, deeper throughout the fuselage, and had much smaller flying surfaces. However Army test pilots strongly disliked the Ki-60s high wing loading and resulting high take-off and landing speeds – they considered the type too “hot” and preferred the greater maneuverability of the Ki-61 with its much larger wing. Still, many find the Ki-60’s lines more aesthetically pleasing than the Hien’s, and perhaps because of this RS Models has graced us with this very nice kit of the type in 1/72 scale. This kit features recessed panel lines and a largish fret of photoetched detail parts, plus decals for the 2nd prototype, a hypothetical 244 Sentai operational aircraft and an even more hypothetical captured American example.
